Docs stop surgery midway, say no time
Lucknow: Action has been initiated against two government doctors who allegedly left a sterilisation camp in Bhadohi district in Uttar Pradesh without completing the surgical procedure, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday when the two doctors, Dr Ramesh Chandra and Dr Azhar Asif, started the sterilisation process on four women at the community health centre in Gopiganj but left without completing it and cited the lack of time as the reason.
The relatives of the patients called in other villagers and the angry mob blocked the Allahabad-Varanasi highway.
When Chief Medical Officer Zubair Ahmad reached the spot to pacify the villagers, he was beaten up mercilessly, following which he fainted The chief medical superintendent Rajiv Kumar Sinha rescued the CMO from the mob.
The CMO told reporters on Wednesday that action had been initiated against the two doctors.
Recommendation of suspension of Ramesh has been forwarded to the authorities concerned, while process to terminate contract of Asif has been started, he said.
