For Arkavathy allottes, BDA dangles another deadline

BDA on the verge of failing to meet its own deadlines in allotment of sites at Arkavathy Layout.
Bangalore: Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is all set to create a record of sorts for failing to observe its own deadlines in allotment of sites at Arkavathy Layout. Now the latest one has been set for March 31 next year.
For the 8,813 allottees it is an endless wait and they feel the BDA authorities are clueless about the happenings in their own organisation.
Arkavathy Layout Allottees Association President G Shivaprakash told Deccan Chronicle that the BDA itself has lost count of its own deadlines. The deadline saga started from January 15, 2013. BDA has overstepped at least seven deadlines to carve 8,813 sites, the announcement for which was made in 2005. We have no faith in deadlines at all, he fumed.
“It has been proved beyond doubt that the BDA officials lack commitment and willingness to serve the public. It is shocking to know that the officials have the audacity to dishonour High Court order.
Despite the court ruling to provide details on the present status of the Arkavathy Layout, the officials have been dodging information to the applicants. It is time the government appointed able and efficient officers to deliver the goods,” he said.
When the officials dodged the High Court, some of the association members had filed a contempt petition. A non-bailable warrant (NBW) was issued against the BDA commissioner T. Sham Bhat.
After the first deadline on January 15, the subsequent deadlines were issued for February, June, July, August, Dasara and Diwali festivals, but nothing materialised. As if that was not enough, now officials reveal that BDA is capable of carving out only three thousand odd sites, Shivaprakash rued.
Now the BDA has given an endorsement to complete the allotment by March 31. If they fail, we will again move contempt petition, Shivaprakash added.
BDA commissioner T. Shambhat said that the BDA is making all efforts to complete the carving and allotting of sites to beneficiaries. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah too has directed the BDA to complete allotment by March 31, he said.
