At 10, Appu is national Abacus champ
Little Vaisakh become the national level champion of Abacus competition.
Thiruvananthapuram: Little Vaisakh known fondly as Appu was not keen on joining the Abacus class that his elder brother Abhishek went to. His parents took a reluctant Appu to Professor Lissy Antony Eapen who ran the Brainwave training institute of Abacus in Thiruvananthapuram.
Four years later, the child, now 10 years old, has become the national level champion of Abacus competition, in Grandmaster A Level, for which 3000 students from across the country were tested. His brother, Abhishek, meanwhile got the second runners up for Grandmaster C Level, the toughest in all 11 levels of the competition.
“Four thousand students from all over the country participated in the competition, after qualifying for the state level contests. Forty-five were from Kerala,” says Jugnu, mother of the genius brothers. Abhishek is in class 8 and Vaisakh in class 6 at the Sarvodaya Vidyalaya School in Thiruvananthapuram.
