Telangana Cong leaders raise pitch against Rayala Telangana
Hyderabad: The clamour against the proposal for creation of Rayala Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh grew shriller with the ruling Congress leaders from Telangana region on Wednesday voicing their opposition to it.
Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Minister K Jana Reddy said he and other ministers from Telangana have urged the Centre and the Group of Ministers (GoM) to include 10 districts with Hyderabad as its capital.
Meanwhile, TRS activists and other Telangana supporters on Wednesday organised protests in the region against the said proposal. Expressing opposition to the idea, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao has called for protests in the region on Wednesday and a bandh in the region on Thursday.
The plan envisages adding two districts of Anantapur and Kurnool from Rayalaseema region to the proposed new separate state of Telangana.
Rayalaseema has four districts in all. The Rayala Telangana idea is hotly debated among parties across the political spectrum and there is apparent divide even in Congress as some of its leaders have backed the ideas as the way of addressing issues like sharing of water.
