Madras HC gets exclusive feeder
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (Tangedco) on Tuesday informed the Madras high court that the entire complex of the high court is provided with a separate feeder with ready back-up feeder to maintain uninterrupted power supply and similar facilities are also provided to the Madurai Bench of the high court.
T.V. K. Murugan, chief engineer of Tangedco, stated this in his counter affidavit filed to the petition from advocate R. Chithravelu, which sought to direct authorities to provide generators or invertors to all subordinate courts in the state to ensure uninterrupted power supply and smooth and effective functioning of the courts.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice R. K. Agrawal and Justice K. Ravichandra Baabu posted after two weeks, further hearing of the case.
Petitioner’s counsel R. Y George Williams submitted that when the petitioner attended the family court inside the high court campus on November 11 and 12, there was frequent power cut, affecting the smooth functioning of the courts. Hence, for the effective functioning of the courts, uninterrupted power supply was necessary, Williams added.
In his counter, Murugan said though the chairman of Tangedco has been arrayed as a respondent, the relief sought for by the petitioner may be maintainable against the Registrar General of Madras high court and the state government.
The Tangedco has put up a 110 KV high voltage sub-station adjacent to the court complex, specifically to cater to the needs of the high court complex and the area in and around.
