Madani in hospital, security beefed up
Bangalore: Following a Supreme Court direction to the state government that Abdul Nasser Madani, an accused in the Bangalore serial bomb blast case, should be given proper medical treatment, the PDP leader was admitted to Manipal Hospital on Tuesday morning.
Madani was taken from the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail and admitted to the hospital around 10.45 am. He has been kept in a separate room and policemen have been posted at the door. His wife Sufiya Madani and his son have been allowed to stay with him, while his close relatives have also been permitted to meet him.
Security at the entire hospital was beefed up after the admission Dr Sudarshan Ballal, Medical Director and Chairman of the hospital, said Madani was admitted for evaluation of his medical problems.
“We have set up a multidisciplinary panel of specialists to evaluate him and will offer him appropriate therapy based on the evaluation. Madani has a history of diabetes hypertension spondylosis and other diabetes related medical problems. He is stable now,” he said.
“After the initial round of treatment, we found that he has more of chronic ailments rather than any significantly acute problems. However, our specialised set of doctors will keep him under close medical observation and after further checkups, a substantiated report can be given. We have spoken to him and he is cheerful,” Ballal said.
Madani was arrested from Kollam district in Kerala on August 17, 2010, for his alleged involvement in the serial bomb blast that occurred on July 25, 2008. Since then, he has been lodged at Parappana Agrahara central prison.
