Bangalore: Medico’s death suicide'
Bangalore: Kolar police have almost concluded that Sai Prasad Kameshwara, the final year medical student at Devaraj Urs Medical College in Kolar, committed suicide by setting himself ablaze.
So far, the probe has revealed no evidence of murder, although police have conducted investigations through various angles. On the other hand, police have taken a statement from Kameshwara’s psychiatrist, who admitted that he had been was treating him for severe depression.
The psychiatrist, who runs a clinic in Sahakaranagar, reportedly told police that he had treated Kameshwara for six months. A senior police official, on condition of anonymity, said the psychiatrist has provided full details of Kameshwara’s treatment.
“The psychiatrist also strongly felt that Kameshwara might have committed suicide. He told us that Kameshwara was in a severe depression and was unable to attend classes regularly. He was also treated for anxiety disorders and insomnia (sleeplessness).
Kameshwara had refused to take the prescribed treatment, despite the psychiatrist’s advice. The doctor observed that Kameshwara’s mental condition might have worsened during his last days, pushing him to end his life,” the officer added.
The deceased was reportedly upset with family matters and other issues and plunged into a depression. Police have also collected information about the medicines prescribed to Kameshwara and are investigating this angle.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Kolar SP Ram Niwas Sepat, said the investigation is still on. “We are awaiting reports from the forensic lab and other agencies. We can’t jump to conclusions now, as there are several teams working on various angles. We will get a clear picture only after the investigation is complete.”
However, he admitted that investigations pointed to Kameshwara’s seeking psychiatric help and thus, the suicide angle could not be ruled out.
Kameshwara, a native of Andhra Pradesh, died of burn injuries at a private hospital in the city on November 19. A week before that it was allegedly that chain snatchers had set him ablaze near his room in Gulpet police station limits in Kolar.
