Kozhikode: The home department transferred 24 prison officials, including an assistant jailor, from the Kozhikode district jail on Tuesday in the wake of the controversy triggered by the Facebook pictures posted by the accused in the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case.
The action came following the preliminary inquiry and raid conducted by the DGP (prisons) Alexander Jacob on Monday night. Mobile chargers and covers were unearthed from the prison but no mobile phones were found. The report of the DGP referred to the role of a section of jail officials in permitting mobile phones in the prison cells, it is learnt.
A police team headed by assistant police commissioner (South) K.R. Premachandran conducted raids in the prison using mine detectors which would help spotting and digging out electronic gadget even buried in soil.
The papers related to a function to be attended by the Chief Minister immediately on his arrival from Delhi. It was a usual practice to collect such important papers and files from the office while going to the airport to collect the CM.
Since the police pilot and escort vehicles were already in place at the airport much ahead of the Chief Minister’s arrival, there was no security lapse. Also the taxi hired for the CM was subjected to anti-sabotage checks, said police sources.
The SP is likely to submit a report to ADGP (Intelligence) T.P. Senkumar on Wednesday. Certain measures to avoid such situations in future would also be prescribed by the SP, said sources.
