Telugu girl on the rise

Hyderabad girl Swathi Dixit is another example of local talent grabbing good projects

Hyderabad girl Swathi Dixit is another example of local talent grabbing good projects. While her first Tollywood film was 'Break-up', she earlier debuted in the Bengali remake of Telugu blockbuster 'Kotha Bangaru Lokam'. In fact, Swathi was one of the choices for the Telugu original as well, but cinematographer Chota K. Naidu thought she looked too young and asked her to wait. Interestingly, Bengali girl Swetha Basu Prasad made her debut with the Telugu film. But Chota recommended Swathi’s name for the Bengali remake. “The director of the Bengali film is also a Telugu, and a friend of Chota garu. That’s how I got the project,” Swathi explains, adding that the film turned out to be a hit in Bengali as well.

“I’m receiving many Bengali film offers but my first preference is Telugu cinema. I’m also open to doing films in other languages,” says Swathi, who also has quite a few Tollywood films coming her way. “I’m glad that directors and producers are asking for Telugu actresses in particular. It’s a sign of local talent being recognised,” she notes.

Her future projects include a film with Allari Naresh, directed by Sathi Babu, and another one produced by Madhura Sridhar. “I also have another big film in the pipeline, which I will announce in a couple of days,” Swathi promises.
