Kolkata to host National Lawn Bowls championship
Kolkata: The city will host the 4th National Lawn Bowls Championship Royal Calcutta Golf Club, Maidan tent from December 12-17.
The meet assumes significance as the Indian team for the next year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will be picked on the basis of the performance here. "This will also be the first time that the National Lawn Bowls will be held on Natural Grass Lawns, which will benefit the Indian players as the Glasgow games will also be held on the same surface," the West Bengal Bowling Association said. The field boasts of the Jharkhand quartet of Sunil Bahadur, the Asia Pacific Merdeka Cup 2012 singles gold medalist, Dinesh Kumar and Lovely Choubey, the Mixed Pairs gold medalist in the Asia Pacific Merdeka Cup this year and Farzana Khan mixed pairs silver medalist in the Asia Pacific Merdeka Cup 2012.
Over 100 players representing 10 states will vie for eight gold medals in men and women events including singles, pairs, triples and fours.
