Solve labour trouble: DMRC tells Collector

Paurasamiti raps traffic of construction vehicles.

Kochi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Monday sought the intervention of District Collector P.I.Sheikh Pareeth to ensure that the construction activities at the FACT-owned land at Eloor would proceed without any disruption.

This after the Eloor People’s Council (paurasamiti) on Saturday objected to the frequent plying of vehicles carrying material to the construction site through the Puthalam-Kadavu road citing that it would be a threat to schoolkids.

“We sought the urgent intervention of the Collector on the issue. Since he is on leave we’ve forwarded a fax. The three-day deadline allowed to us by the local people ends tomorrow,” metro sources said.

District Collector P.I.Sheik Pareeth said he would convene a discussion involving officials of the DMRC, KMRL, contractor Soma Constructions and the local people.

“The ‘Paurasamiti’s demand is not fair. The Metro authorities have agreed to widen the road. However, the Paurasamiti is pressing for the construction of a new road for vehicles proceeding to the yard. But it is not feasible. We’ll hold talks to arrive at a middle path,” he said.

FACT has leased out 4.33 hectares to the KMRL to set up a temporary construction yard.
