Nasr win thriller

Nasr girls won a low-scoring nail biter against St Francis Junior College at the inter school basketball league being played in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: Nasr registered a thrilling 12-9 victory over St Francis Junior College at the BFI-IMG Reliance interschool basketball league -organised by the Hyderabad District Basketball Association under the aegis of the Basketball Federation of India -at the YMCA in Secunderabad.

In other girls' matches, Future Kids School got the better of St Ann's Junior College 28-12 and Holy Family High School cruised past St Ann's High School 19-6.

Among the boys, Gitanjali School defeated St Andrew's High School 48-37, Oakridge International School brushed aside Future Kids School 45-28 and DRS International School proved too good for St Joseph's High School 27-13.

In a low-scoring match, an under-strength Nasr strength took on a below-par St Francis side. Both teams' main players are taking part in the ongoing inter-school state championship at Chittoor.

In a battle of the benchwarmers, both teams displayed true grit to put up a great show for the spectators.

The two sides employed very tight defensive tactics and were able to limit the scoring opportu nities for their opponents.

The first two quarters wit nessed an absorbing game of cat and mouse as neither team was able to gain a clear advantage. Nasr held a slender 5-4 lead going into the third quarter.

Here, Nasr were able to breach their opponents' defence to score a crucial three-pointer and then scored a basket. Even though St Francis scored once, Nasr led 10 6 going into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, St Francis scored a three-pointer to up the ante and it was only in the dying moments that Nasr found the basket to score two points to pull ahead and win the nervewracking encounter.
