We showed no intent: Raman
Chennai: W.V . Raman is not one to mince his words. The Tamil Nadu coach was straightforward while describing his thoughts on the team's mediocre performance against Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy .
“We don't have anybody else, but ourselves to blame,“ Raman said after TN mustered just one point in the home match against Saurashtra's three reward for their first innings lead.
“It's not about disappointment, it's about not latching on to the opportunities that come your way . On a track like this when the bowlers produce chances, the catches will have to be taken.
Any side that commits these kind of elementary mistakes has to pay heavy price for it,“ added Raman referring to the two dropped catches by M. Vijay .
Raman said Saurashtra players showed better commitment and intent.
“Let's not forget the fact that one individual (Cheteshwar Pujara) epitomised what commitment is all about.
And it's definitely a problem in our neck of the woods.
“If you put your mind through it, you can get things done. That's exactly what happened as far as they (Saurashtra) were concerned. In the other side, neither the heads nor the intent were there,“ former India opener said.
Pujara, Raman said, filled in for Saurashtra when the state needed him. “He was not in the side just for a period of four overs. He is also going to South Africa and not that he is going to continue with the state side. If at all someone had to display loyalty for the state which has been the ladder for him to go there, it (performing in the Ranji) was the perfect way to give something back,” added Raman.
The coach also said there a room for consistency in Tamil Nadu’s bowling. “But again, if the catches were taken things would have been different,” he said.
