Schools warned not to fake regular students as private
State government warns schools against asking regular students to appear for exams as private students.
Hyderabad: The state government has warned schools against asking some of the regular students to appear for SSC public exams, as private students.
It has been a practice for some schools to show their students with poor academic performance, as private candidates to ensure that only good students take the exams and the school achieves 100 per cent results.
The managements then widely publicise about achieving 100 per cent results, to attract fresh admissions. The Minister for Secondary Education, K. Parthasarathi, has directed the district education officers to verify the enrolment numbers in schools with that of students registered with SSC Board, to appear for exams, after the department received several complaints about this.
“The DEOs have been asked to verify the student data and submit the report to the government at the earliest.” said Parthasarathi adding, “If any discrepancies are found, action will be initiated on the schools concerned.”
Ironically, even the government schools are resorting to such irregularities. “Poor results have been impacting promotions and increments of principals and staff. To evade this, they are forcing students, with poor academic performance, to register as private candidates,” said P. Narayana, President, United Teachers’ Federation.
Though regular candidates, if registered, as private candidates can continue their higher studies after clearing SSC, they would face problems when they seek admissions in the best junior colleges or apply for the Centre and state government’s scholarships.
Normally, students who pass exams in regular mode will be preferred over private candidates for scholarships.
