Thiruvananthapuram: Transport Commissioner Rishiraj Singh has issued a directive to over 21 film and television organisations as well as the Censor Board asking them to ensure that anyone riding two-wheelers should be shown wearing helmets and those driving or sitting in the front seats of four-wheelers should be pictured wearing seat belts.
They have also been asked to show warning shots of the hazards of not wearing helmets just as statutory warnings on smoking and drinking keep flashing across TV screens when such scenes appear.
Otherwise, the department would be forced to register cases against those who shoot ‘riding’ scenes without helmets, 'because a ride is a ride', the directive issued on Sunday said.
This was because a huge segment of society watched T V serials and films. If actors could ride bikes without helmets, they why can’t we?, viewers might tend to ask. The same view would also pop up in the case of seat belts too, he said in the circular.
As per Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, helmets are compulsory for bike riders.
