No ransom call:?Sharief’s family
Mining officer Ibrahim Sharief's family have not received any ransom calls.
Bellary: Family members of Ibrahim Sharief, an officer with the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) who has gone missing from Bhubaneswar in Odisha six days ago, said they have not received any ransom call and were worried about his safety. The family fears that he has fallen victim to the illegal coal mining lobby in Odisha as he had refused to give a favourable report after an inspection recently.
The 34-year-old officer hails from Yashwanthanagar in Sandur. The relatives said that his wife Salma Parveen has been waiting for her husband at Kanan Vihar in Bhubaneswar with her parents.
Giddasab, Sharief's father, said that his son is brave and an optimist. He secured mining engineering degree from KGF and joined IBM's regional office in Bhubaneswar on January 27, 2011, as assistant controller of mines.
Family members suspect that Sharief has been kidnapped as the Odisha police have not recorded any transaction in three of his ATM cards since he went missing last Monday. His motorcycle was found abandoned in the parking lot of a private hospital near his office.
An Odisha police team is camping in Uttar Pradesh as Sharief's phone signals were traced to Allahabad and Mughalsarai on November 26, a day after he disappeared.
The phone was switched on for a few seconds, and it has been switched off since then. The police have put up posters of Sharief at the Mughalsarai railway station, but have not received any information till now.
Sources in IBM told Deccan Chronicle that Bhubaneshar's IBM regional office has informed the Union Ministry of Mines of the kidnapping.
IBM official sources confirmed that the Infocity police in Bhubaneshwar, who have been investigating the case, collected all inspection reports of different mines prepared by the missing officer.
Sources said Sharief inspected 25 mines between April and September. “Of these, he submitted violation reports against seven. He had also visited a few controversial mines in Barbil area of Keonjhar district that are known for gross illegalities and gave a report of violations," an IBM officer said.
Family sources said Sharief last visited his native in October along with his wife to celebrate Bakrid. He did not complain of work pressure or any other problem with the family when he was in the village, they said.
