Degree students pip techies to job post
Conventional degree college students in the city are giving tough competition to techie students.
Hyderabad: Students from conventional degree colleges in the city are giving tough competition to students from management and engineering colleges in the ongoing campus placement session. Companies are preferring students from reputed degree colleges over students from substandard professional colleges.
Students pursuing B. Com (computers), B.Com (general) and BBA from prominent degree colleges in the city are in demand this year. Degree students agreeing for relatively lower salaries, than engineering and management students, is also said to be a reason for firms going to degree colleges for campus placements.
Companies such as Genpact, Cognizant, Mahindra Satyam, TransDyne etc are on a hiring spree in degree colleges.
Instead of offering a minimum annual package of Rs 4 lakh to engineering graduates, they are selecting graduates with a background in computer science, math, statistics, commerce and management for an annual salary of less than Rs 3.5 lakh.
