Bar council notice to Solar case counsel

A sub-committee to form a code of conduct for advocates while they address the Press.

Kochi: The Bar Council on Sunday sought an explanation from the advocates of the solar case accused for their public statements 'amounting to blackmailing' while terming their behaviour as “unethical”.

The council had proceeded suo motu against advocates Feni Balakrishnan and Jacob Mathew, said Council secretary K. Ajayan, at a meet held here.

Biju Radhakrishnan’s counsel Jacob Mathew had said that he was in possession of videotapes which showed bedroom scenes involving Saritha Nair and certain ministers while Feni’s statement on the names in her statement before the magistrate, had become controversial.

“Their acts are against the very ethics of the profession and we will proceed against them if we’re not satisfied with their explanations,” the Bar Council secretary said.

Meanwhile, a three-member sub-committee headed by advocate N. Nagaresh has been appointed to form a code of conduct for advocates while they address the Press.

“It will deal basically with what to speak and what not to ”, he said.
