1 in 6 companies registered in Kerala related to IT sector

Out of 670 companies registered in Kerala between July 1- Sept. 30,107 are IT firms.

Kochi: One in six companies registered in Kerala is a computer-related firm, according to the statistics of the office of the Company Registrar.

The latest statistics showed that 670 companies had registered in the state between July 1 and September 30, out of which 107 were computer firms.

About 88 chit fund companies had also registered during this period, indicating that there was a strong market for small scale banking firms.

Around 80 manufacturing companies, 74 construction companies, 35 wholesale companies, 20 hotels, 19 real estate firms and 16 plantation firms had also registered with the Company Registrar.

“The 670 companies registered between July and September include 13 public limited firms with a total asset of Rs 62.05 cr and 657 private firms with a total asset of Rs 57.486 cr. Among these, 33 companies have assets of over Rs 50 lakh,” a company registrar official said.

The statistics also show that Kochi witnessed the registration of the most number of companies during this period (223). Thiruvananthapuram had 97 registrations and Thrissur, 95.

The office of the Company Registrar also registered 148 cases during the July-September period.

Registrations of 84 firms were cancelled under Section 560 of the Company Law. A total of Rs 1.61 lakh was received as fine from various companies for violation of rules.
