Mahendran hopes to break the jinx

Mahendran, is back as a hero and has four films in his kitty.

Mahendran, who was launched as a child artiste by K.S.Ravikumar in 'Naattamai' and thereafter completed more than 40 films with the likes of K.Balachander, Bharathiraja and Ramanarayanan, is back as a hero and has four films in his kitty.

The young actor, who was noticed for his dancing skills in 'Maanada Mayilaada', the reality show, is pinning all his hopes on his upcoming flick, 'Vizha', which has an offbeat subject. Bharathy Balakumaran, who won critical acclaim from veterans, Balachander and Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan, for his short film, 'Manadhu', is foraying into the large screen as a director with 'Vizha'. Retaining the core theme, Bharathy has translated Manadhu on to the big screen, giving few cinematic touches with a new title, 'Vizha'. It tells the story of a ‘parai’ (an instrument played in villages during the death rituals) player and his romance with a bigwig’s daughter, essayed by Malavika Menon. “I am confident that 'Vizha' will give me the necessary break as there is plenty of scope for performance and dance,” Mahendran asserts. James Vasanthan, who was in a lull, returns with a bang with this film, produced by Ramanarayanan and Sunil, is gearing up for release on Dec-ember 20.
