Ghosal lifts NSCI Open title
Mumbai: Saurav Ghosal warmed up for the Hong Kong Open with a title win at the NSCI Open squash here on Saturday, beating Ravi Dixit 11-4, 11-5, 11-3 in the men's singles final.
Dixit and Ghosal were tied 4-4 in the early part of the first game but the fomer lost steam to lose 411. In the second game, Dixit was ahead 5-4, before the top ranked Indian rattled seven successive points to win the game. The third game proved a cakewalk for Ghosal as he didn't give his rival a chance of a comeback.
The 27-year-old along with Joshna Chinappa will participate in the yearending Hong Kong Open. Joshna too prepared for the event in style, winning the women's singles title in straight sets, beating Urvashi Joshi 11-3, 12-10, 11-9. “I am leaving for Hong Kong from here and want to end the year on a good note. Every game will be difficult there, so I have to take it one at a time,“ Ghosal said.
Currently ranked 17th in the world, he is set to achieve a career-best ranking of 15 next week.
He, however, is looking forward to break into the top 10 by next year.
“I will try to win medals for India at the Asian and the Commonwealth Games,“ he said.
