Stalin takes on AIADMK govt on mega power projects

Power crisis in TN dominates the electrifying campaign in Yercaud by-poll.
Yercaud: Power crisis in TN dominated the electrifying campaign in Yercaud by-poll as the DMK leader M.K.Stalin on Friday counter-charged that the AIADMK government had put mega power projects on the backburner leading to “unprecedented outage” in the state.
Kicking off the four-day campaign in this constituency going to poll on December 4, Stalin launched into a counter-allegation spree a day after Jayalalithaa accused the DMK-Congress combine of having engineered a power crisis in TN.
The DMK leader alleged that the state was facing 18 to 20 hours of outage while during the previous DMK regime there was only a two-hour power cut. Work on two mega power projects to produce 1,800 mw of power at a cost of Rs 7,750 crore had begun in Mettur and North Chennai during the DMK regime. As 75 per cent of the work was completed, the regime changed and the projects were hanging fire now, he alleged and said, “If these projects had been implemented, there would have been no power cuts in Tamil Nadu.”
Similarly, the erstwhile DMK regime had come up with a joint initiative with the NLC, National Thermal Power Corporation and Bharat Electricals with Rs 21,000 crore outlay. “These projects too are hanging fire. So, who has conspired to create the power crisis in TN?” he asked.
The CM had announced that the government would allot funds for speeding up the power project of the Bharat Electricals at Udankudi, but “not a paisa has been alloted yet.”
