Salem: The police and Central Industrial Security Force personnel deployed for the Yercaud bypoll duty were moved by the gesture of Chief Minister J. Jayalithaa during her visit to the constituency on Thursday.
On noticing them on vehicle check duty, she insisted that her convoy stops and subjects itself to check like any others.
The Chief Minister waited calmly while the cops went through their checking of all the vehicles in her convoy at the Vazhapadi checkpost, eyewitnesses told Deccan Chronicle. The AIADMK supremo had campaigned at nine places in the Yercaud constituency.
When contacted, Salem SP, R. Sakthivel confirmed that the CM’s convoy was checked. It was “a routine procedure” and the Chief Minister waited patiently till the clearance was given for her convoy to proceed, he said and denied there were instructions from the election commission to check the convoy.
