Awake to the Sound

Sound Awake is back to blow away the minds of EDM fans on December 1

The festival, currently in its second edition, will see artistes such as Congorock, Jacob Plant, DJ Ivan and DJ Ajit Pai who have taken the EDM movement by storm.

“The bi-annual festival format is mainly to engage with the audience so that they know the real difference of a music festival as opposed to going to a hotel lawn or ballroom for an EDM party," says Venkat Vardhan, MD of DNA Networks which is the organiser of Sound Awake.

Goa has played a major part in the Indian EDM movement by being the place where it all started. Keeping that in mind, Sound Awake will feature authentic flea markets from Goa for this edition to bring the actual feel of the beaches of Goa to Bengaluru.

“For the flea market, we have designed edgy, young casual wear that draws inspiration from various cultures," says designer Nitin Bal Chauhan.

A unique feature of this edition is the 150 feet long stage in a three-stage format, wherein one gets to experience Hekandi and Ministry of Sound in the same space and same direction.

“I expect to see the whole of Bengaluru and also people from other cities at the festival. I also expect people to see people enjoy my progressive eletro music in the right way. This time I will experiment with dub-step beats as well. The whole Goa feel at the festival will add to musical atmosphere," says DJ Ajith.

Many consider the current EDM scenario in India to be the tip of the iceberg. The fact that EDM has to be explored in different formats to arrive at its full potential has been meditated by many EDM DJs.

“If we could focus on world class values in terms of sound production, we could attract more artistes. In a few years, it will not just be about the big ticket artistes but more about the entire experience. Sound Awake is a major step towards it," says DJ Ivan.
