From racing bikes to bullock carts
Many, many years ago, Tamil actor Ajith started off his film career with a Telugu flick. And now, fate has brought the actor back to Hyderabad, but in a different avatar. Steering clear from his earlier stylish action movies, the star will be seen as a “son of the soil” –a typical dhoti-clad rural man – thanks to director Siva.
After riding sports bikes and cars in his previous films, Ajith will be riding a bullock cart in Veeram; and there’s also a folk song for him for the first time.
Director Siva says, “After almost six years you will see Ajith romancing a heroine with proper duet songs. His on-screen chemistry with Tamanna is awesome, something which will be fresh and new.” Asked whether the actor was uneasy doing the romantic scenes, Siva says with a smile, “We have designed the love scenes keeping his age and on-screen image in mind. It’s a family entertainer which will cater to all.”
Siva reveals that Ajith’s opening song, which projects the lifestyle of his character Vinayagam, is a mass number which would be lapped up by his fans. “It is a ‘pucca’ local song. After we edited the peppy number we went and showed it to Ajith at the hotel in Hyderabad where he was staying. It was already past 2 at night. He got so engrossed that he started dancing.”
The director vouches that Ajith’s changeover is justified. “His versatility is known to all. The only time Ajith and I had differences of opinion was while shooting for risky stunt sequences,” he says adding, “I would insist that Ajith use a body double but he would not budge an inch.”
