Mirica, Aditya win titles

Hyderabad’s Mirica Jaiswal and Aditya Kallepalli, both top seeds, won the girls’ and boys’ championships respectively at the All India Tennis Association Talent Series tournament for under-14 boys and girls, organised by the Surya Tennis Foundation at Pallavi School in Bowenpally, Secunderabad, on Thursday.

In the girls’ final, Mirica defeated third-seeded Dhriti Kapoor 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4 while Aditya registered a come-frombehind 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory in a battle of the top seeds against Pralok Ikkurthy.

In the girls’ final, Mirica got off to a bright start, winning the first set 6-3. But just when she thought she could cash in on her momentum to wrap up the match in two sets, Dhriti fought back and pushed Mirica all the to win the second set 7-6 (2) and pull level.

In the decider, however, Mirica was able to shrug off her setback to win the decider 6-4 to win the match and with it, the title.

Aditya got off to a poor start in the boys’ summit clash.

Through a bevy of unforced errors, he let Pralok win the first set 6-4.

He struck back in the second to win 6-4 and restore parity.

The third set saw both players struggle for the lead for the most part. Eventually, Aditya got the crucial break of serve and then he held his own to serve out for the victory.
