Telugu Desam wants minister to tell PM on water rights

Vijayawada: Krishna district Telugu Desam president and MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao here on Thursday demanded that the Union ministers of the region to mount pressure on the UPA government and also the Prime Minister to protect the excess water rights of Andhra Pradesh on Krishna river.

Speaking to media persons here, Umamaheswara Rao said that the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal decision would come soon and it would damage the interests of the farmers of the state.

Former chief minister late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy had submitted a letter to the Tribunal against the interests of the farmers, he alleged and added that the entire delta and also Telangana would face severe water problem in future.

Presently, the Krishna delta is not in a position to get water at least for one crop and farming community would not cultivate even one crop also, he regretted. He said that Karnataka and Maharashtra states were looting the excess water from the Krishna river.

Umamaheswara Rao wondered how the Union ministers were supporting the state bifurcation instead of solving the various important issues pending with the state government.

He said that the Telugu Desam would fight for protecting the interests of the farmers and people would teach a fitting lesson to the Union ministers of the region. MLA Sriram Rajagopal, TD leaders K.V.V. Satyanarayana, Yalamanchali Gouranga Babu and M. Venkateswara Rao were present.
