Sushilkumar Shinde: Telangana issues resolved, Bill to Cabinet next week
Hyderabad: The Union Cabinet will most probably formally approve the Telangana Bill on December 4, a day before Parliament Winter Session is scheduled to begin. This is expected to delay the tabling of the T-Bill before Parliament concludes on December 20.
According to home ministry sources, the Union government is planning to continue the Winter Session by announcing a recess from December 20 to some time in February 2014 to approve the Vote-on-Account Budget along with the T-Bill as had happened during the NDA regime in 2003.
After formal approval of the T-Bill by the Cabinet on December 4, the Union parliamentary affairs minister will have to officially inform the Speaker and all party floor leaders on whether the government intends to introduce the Telangana Bill during the Winter Session or not.
Probably keeping the exte
nsion of Winter Session option in mind, home minister Sushilkumar Shinde said on Thursday, without giving any hint on the date of introduction of the T-Bill, “It will be introduced in the Winter Session only.” He also said there were minor issues that needed to be addressed to keep the draft T-Bill foolproof.
Meanwhile the GoM met on Thursday and submitted their report to Shinde. The home minister is expected to discuss the T Bill contents in Friday’s Congress Core Committee meeting. Thereafter it will be sent to the Prime Minister’s Office with a request to include it in the next Cabinet Agenda.
