CPM not to topple UDF government
Thiruvananthapuram: While the CPM is not interested in toppling the UDF government which is engulfed in troubles of its own, the special plenum of the party in Palakkad on Thursday saw Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan coming under attack by a section of delegates during the discussion on the organisational report.
The delegates took him to task for his anti-party stand on many issues, including T.P. Chandrasekharan murder and SNC-Lavalin cases.
Without naming him, the delegates said certain forces within the party tried to put the organisation in the dock in the Lavalin case. They hailed the central leadership for standing firm behind Pinarayi Vijayan during the crisis period.
They criticised the state committee and secretariat members holding them responsible for leaking crucial decisions of the higher committees, including the state secretariat, to the media.
CPM politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, while briefing mediapersons on the deliberations at the plenum, refuted reports regarding criticism against Achuthanandan.
Kodiyeri said that the CPM would not topple the UDF government which was already facing several charges of corruption and contradictions from within.
He said the situation was ideal for the LDF to do a repeat of the 2004 Lok Sabha polls in which the Congress could not win even a single seat.
The CPM plenum also passed three resolutions: one on the political situation in the state, the second against making aadhar cards mandatory and the third against the UDF government’s 2030 vision document.
Kodiyeri added that RSS and organisations like SDPI were trying to polarise people on communal lines and spread hatred.
