Name new state as 'Sonia Telangana': Ex-AP minister
New Delhi: In a queer demand, a former Andhra Pradesh minister on Thursday suggested the Centre to name the new state carved out of Andhra Pradesh as 'Sonia Telangana'.
"I am putting forth this demand, as she has prevented more individuals from the region committing suicide for Telangana cause," P Shankar Rao, who claims to be a founder member of Congress (I), said.
"Over a thousand people have committed suicide till the announcement on creation of Telangana was made. However, there were no suicides reported in the last 70 days," he added.
Terming Sonia as 'Telangana Talli' (Mother of Telangana), Rao said he is installing a statue in Hyderabad by December which would resemble the face of the AICC chief. He has also met the GoM looking into bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh here.

Separate Telangana state is a 'reality', says union minister
Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment K Suresh said here on Thursday that Telangana is a "reality".
Speaking here at Hyderabad on the sidelines of the 7th National Skill Conference held here on Thursday by the Functional Vocational Training and Research Society (FVTRS) Suresh said that the Group of Ministers is evaluating the bifurcation issue.
He claimed to be ignorant about whether the bifurcation issue would be tabled in the Parliament and said that it was not in his hand.
"I don’t see the agenda coming within days. I can only talk about the agenda of my ministry and not the bifurcation agenda," he said. When asked whether he would stand by the Congress Working Committee (CWC) decision Suresh said that Congress party official spokespersons would talk about it and that it was not for him to comment.
