Man stalks actor Hema, arrested
Hyderabad: A man who stalked and harassed famous Tollywood actor Hema by sending vulgar messages to her mobile phone frequently has been arrested.
The 27-year-old man, Madhu, a native of Suryapet town in Nalgonda, was arrested on Thursday, after the actor lodged a complaint at the Madhapur police station.
The accused used to call Hema several times and when she started rejecting his calls, he started sending her abusive SMSes.
“He started calling me in the third week of October. I received at least 100 calls to my mobile number from the unknown caller. When I started avoiding the calls, the person sent around 50 SMSes which were vulgar and abusive,” said Hema, who has acted in around 250 Telugu movies.
Madhu, who works in a grocery store, got Hema’s number accidentally.
“He used to dial random mobile numbers, and if the number belonged to a woman, he would start harassing her. He got Hema’s number accidentally,” said Madhapur inspector P. Narayana said.
“He started calling her, and then started harassing her by sending abusive SMSes, after which she approached us,” said the inspector.
Police said that the accused bought the SIM card with a fake ID card. “The ID he used belonged to a person from Khammam,” said an investigation official.
After the police booked a case, he received a call from the Madhapur police. He then switched off his mobile phone. Later, the police traced the mobile phone with the help of cyber crime experts by analysing call data records.
Police found that Madhu had been stalking many women using his mobile phone. He was confident that police would not catch him since he was using a fake SIM card.
Cops booked a case against him for outraging a woman’s modesty and relevant Sections of the IT Act.
He was produced before court and was sent to judicial custody.
