Pay revision will benefit 5.3L staff
Thiruvananthapuram: The state cabinet on Wednesday constituted the tenth Pay Commission for the revision of pay scales of state government employees and teachers.
Justice C.N. Ramachandran Nair will be the chairman of the commission. Former treasury director and additional secretary, finance, K.V. Thomas will be the member secretary while advocate T.V. George will be member.
At the cabinet briefing, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the terms of reference of the commission would be finalised later.
Though the due date for appointing the 10th Pay Commission is after June 2014, the government seems to have taken an early decision in view of the Lok Sabha polls next year.
The Pay Commission will recommend revision for over 5.3 lakh state service employees, including teachers, and over five lakh pensioners.
The cabinet also constituted the State Forward Communities’ Commission to look into the problems of the economically weaker sections among these communities and recommend measures for their educational and employment opportunities.
A sitting or retired judge of the Supreme Court or the High Court would be appointed as chairman of the commission which will be a permanent body. The General Administration Department (GAD) secretary would be the ex-officio member of the panel.
