Kiran Bedi to get Sankalp Award
Hyderabad: Kiran Bedi will be awarded the Sankalp Sanjeevani Puraskar for her services and contribution to the society, as part of the Sankalp Divas celebrations at Ravindra Bharathi on Thursday.
Bedi became India’s first woman Indian Police Service officer in 1972. She has 35 years of expertise in creative and reformative policing and prison management.
She has worked with the United Nations as the police advisor to the secretary general, in the Department of Peace Keeping Operations. She represented India in International forums on crime prevention, drug abuse, police and prison reforms and women’s issues.
She is a recipient of the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award and also the founder of two NGOs, Navjyoti and India Vision Foundation in areas of education, vocational skills, environment, counseling and health care to urban and rural poor.
The former IPS officer was also part of Anna Hazare’s India Against Corruption movement. A few other institutions will also be felicitated.
