Bengaluru up to 2nd in league table
New Delhi: Bengaluru Football Club produced a dominating performance to defeat Salgaocar FC 2-1 in their I-League clash at the Duler Stadium in Goa on Tuesday .
With this win, Bengaluru have moved to the second spot on the table with 18 points from 10 matches. Salgaocar are also on 18 but retain their top spot on goal difference. Liberian striker John Menyongar (21st minute) gave Bengaluru the lead but the hosts promptly hit back with Gilbert Oliveira scoring with a long ranger two minutes later. Beikhokhei Beingaichho (57th) scored the winner in the second half.
Salgaocar had a chance to draw level in the first minute of added time, but Darryl Duffy missed a penalty. Bengaluru were on the attack right from the start and deservedly took the lead from a corner kick. Salgaocar replied with a moment of brilliance from Gilbert. He picked up a ball from just outside the box and drilled in a fierce shot that found the top corner of the net.
Bengaluru finally clinched the issue when Sunil Chhetri did some nice work on the left before picking out Beikhokhei with a through. The Mizoram forward made no mistake, bulging the net with a well-placed left-footer.
On Wednesday, Pune FC will aim to go top of the table when they face struggling Dempo SC at the Duler Stadium. Pune are in fine form, having taken 17 points from eight matches.
