East Coast Railway gears up prevent crimes against lady passengers in trains

STF teams to conduct drives in trains with special emphasis on Ladies’ Compartments.

Bhubaneswar: Noticing certain incidents of crimes against women in trains, East Coast Railway has taken adequate safety measures including mass awareness programmes to ensure prompt and immediate action in case of any untoward incident, an official said.

A Quick Response Team has been formed at ECoR headquarters to monitor such incidents and facilitate provision of immediate assistance in the event of occurrence of such incidents in trains or in railway premises.

Helpline number 08455885777 has been started and women in distress may call this number for immediate help, they said.

Special Squads deploying lady RPF staff have been formed and they will keep strict vigil on elements creating problems for lady passengers inside trains and at Railway Stations.

Special Task Force (STF) teams will also conduct drives in trains with special emphasis on Ladies’ Compartments.

During April-October of this year, a total number of 438 cases have been prosecuted by RPF in ECoR jurisdiction under Section 162 of Railways Act dealing with entering the carriage or other places reserved for ladies, they said.
