Bangalore pays homage to 26/11 martyrs
Bangalore: Rich tributes were paid to the city’s 26/11 martyr Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan on Tuesday on the fifth anniversary of the deadly terror attack across key locations in Mumbai.
The state Youth Congress on Tuesday evening conducted a candle light vigil at Mahatma Gandhi statue near Race Course Road. Youth Congress member D.A Pramod Shankar told Deccan Chronicle, “Since 2009, every year on November 26, we hold candle light vigil as a mark of respect and for the immense bravery of those martyrs.
“This is for the fifth time we are holding this candle light vigil. Over 60 people from all walks of life took part in the event to pay their tributes to the heroes.”
Major Sandeep UnÂnikrishnan, who was serving the elite Special Action Group of the National Security Guards (NSG), laid down his life fighting terrorists who had laid siege to Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Palace & Tower hotel.
He was later awarded Ashoka Chakra, the highest peace time gallantry award. Meanwhile, another candle light peace march was organised on Tuesday evening in memory of Major Unnikrishnan by Rotaract Club of Yelahanka in association with Rotary Club of Bangalore. It began from Rotary Learning Centre and concluded at Sandeep Unnikrishnan Road.
