Lara Dutta now making sarees

Lara Dutta Bhupathi on her future projects and motherhood

Dressed in a chiffon brown saree, Lara Dutta Bhupathi looked quite at home. Although the ex-Miss Universe has often been spotted in Western outfits, she carries off ethnic wear with equal aplomb. “I am comfortable in both Indian and Western wear. But I always maintain that nothing can be as elegant as the saree,” says Lara, who was in New Delhi to launch her own saree collection.

Talking about her fitness, Lara jokes, “Saira is soon going to turn 2 and is such a busy personality. I have lost weight running after her and my husband.” But then adds, “I have always been a fitness enthusiast. And I do yoga, weight training and control my diet.”

On the work front, Lara is excited to produce and act in 'Chalo Dilli' sequel. “The prequel was well-received. So I hope that the sequel is equally liked.”

News about her being part of an item number was doing the rounds. “I am not doing any item numbers. At this juncture in life, I am looking for more meaningful work,” she says.

Did Lara always intend to start her own fashion line? “Since the age of five, I used to cut my mother’s clothes and design clothes for my dolls. So maybe, I had always a designer’s instinct,” she winks. After contemplating slightly she adds, “I always wanted to do something apart from my career in B’town so I decided to start my own collection. Also, as my daughter is growing up, she is getting quite self-sufficient. So I think, it is good to engage myself in fruitful endeavours like this.”
