Driver held for stealing jewels
Hyderabad: A car driver and a pawn broker were arrested by the Panjagutta police in connection with the case of theft of a jewel box worth about Rs 25 lakh. The incident took place about six days ago.
The arrested men are Balavath Bhaskar Naik, alias Bhaskar, 22, a resident of Raju Colony, Cyberabad, and native of Mahbubnagar district, and Laxminarayan Kumawath, the proprietor of Balaji Rajendrakumar, Pawn Brokers & Money Lenders, Raju colony, Balanagar.
DCP V. Satyanarayana said that a person named Lingala Purushotham Goud, a resident of Dilsukhnagar, had lodged a complaint stating that on November 22, he came to Park Hotel, Somajiguda, to attend a function with suitcases containing gold and diamond studded ornaments in his car driven by his driver Balavath Bhaskar Naik. After getting off the car, he had asked the driver to wait, and told him that he will take the suitcases one by one.
On entering Park Hotel, when he checked the suitcases he found one jewellery box worth Rs 25 lakh missing. He suspected the driver, police said.
Bhaskar Naik had been working as a driver for Purushotham since a month. On the day of the incident, Purushotham had asked him to guard the luggage containing precious items belonging to his relatives. But the driver opened the suitcase, stole the jewel box, fled, and later mortgaged the jewels with Laxminarayan Kumawath.
