GRP constable sexually assaults engineering student in AP

Hyderabad: A female engineering student was allegedly sexually assaulted by a Government Railway Police constable in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh, the police said here on Tuesday.

Anand, a constable attached with the Tenali GRP, allegedly assaulted the 19-year-old girl Monday night on the outskirts of Cheruvukummapalam of Prakasam district and beat up her boyfriend, the police said. While the accused forcibly took the girl to a lonely place and allegedly committed the crime, the victim's boyfriend sent out cellphone text messages to his friends asking them to rush to the spot.

The youngsters chased the constable fleeing on his bike, when he suddenly fell down and sustained head injuries, after which he was admitted to a private hospital, the police said.

Neither the victim nor her parents lodged any formal complaint, though the police booked a suo motu case of sexual assault against the constable under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code. Further investigations are on.

Minor girl raped by 16-yr-old boy

Nizamabad: A minor girl was allegedly raped by a 16-yearold boy on the terrace of the Rajiv Gruhakalpa Apartments at Nagaram, police said here on Monday.

The boy, a neighbour of the 12-year-old girl, took her to the top of the building late on Sunday night and allegedly committed the offence. The parents of the victim found the girl with injuries and enquired what had happened.

They immediately rushed to the V Town police station and lodged a complaint. Following the complaint, police registered a case against the boy under the stringent provisions of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

Bangalore: The repeated incidents of rape and molestation against women may have shocked and angered the nation. But Namma Bengaluru's police force seems oblivious to the popular anger.

On Sunday night, the good samaritans of Bangalore came to the rescue of a 12 year old. Software engineer, Syed Aslam, who the little girl while driving through Panduranga Layout near Dollars Colony.

Aslam chased the man down and when it seemed as if he would get away, raised the alarm until other passersby joined him and they nabbed the accused.

“The public thrashed him. He was drunk. I called JP Nagar police at 8.30 pm, but they arrived at the spot only around 9.30 pm,“ Aslam said.

Public catch molester, but police let him go scot free

Syed Aslam, a 32-yearold software engineer, who nabbed the accused along with other passersby, told Deccan Chronicle that he was on his way to his J.P. Nagar residence when the incident occurred.

“While passing in my car near Panduranga Layout near Dollars Colony around 8.15 pm on Sunday, I noticed a girl being dragged by her hand by a youth aged around 22 years. Growing suspicious, I stopped the car and tried to catch the youth. On seeing me, he tried to run away. As I raised an alarm, a few passersby joined me and we managed to nab him. He was thrashed by the public and later it was found that he was under the influence of alcohol,“ Aslam said.

“I called up the J.P. Nagar police around 8.30 pm and they reached the spot only around 9.30 pm. Later, they took the accused, who appeared to be a labourer, to the police station. I had requested them to file a case against him. But when I checked with the police to know about the case on Monday morning, they did not have any record of the incident. I was shocked. The police told me that the girl's parents did not want to file a complaint,“ Aslam said.

DCP (South) H.S. Revanna told Deccan Chronicle that the girl's father refused to pursue the case. “We tried to convince him to file a case, but he told us that no such incident occurred. We have recorded his statement,“ the DCP said.

Chennai: A 24-year-old girl, working as a receptionist in a private firm, jumped to death from the eighth floor of her office building in Mylapore, near the Citi Centre mall, on Monday.

The girl, identified as Rajalakshmi, had joined work only in August as a receptionist at the eighth floor office of Godrej Properties, Lancor Westminster building, on Radhakrishnan Salai, Mylapore.

Police sources said a tussle with her family over a love affair was suspected to be the reason behind the girl taking the extreme step.

She is the only daughter of Selvam, an accountant, and Senthamarai, a teacher. The family resides at Vasantha garden in Aynavaram, the police said. On Monday , Rajalakshmi reached office around 9 30 am.

Around 10 am, she was seen jumping from the top floor of the building, much to the shock of the security personnel and bystanders.

“My sister usually goes to office on a two-wheeler. On Monday , she went by an autorickshaw. We were shocked to hear about the incident and have no idea what prompted her to take the tragic step,“ said Rajkumar, her cousin, who stays on the first floor of her house.

“Her legs were broken and she was lying in a pool of blood when the police reached the spot,“ a shocked eyewitness said. The girl's family immediately rushed her to the government Roya, pettah hospital where she was declared dead.

According to another family member, they were in the process of looking for a matrimoni al alliance for Rajalak shmi. The reason for the suicide is yet unknown, said a police official.

“However, we have learnt that the girl had a minor argument with her father the day before her death,“ he said.
