Beat body odour now

Body odour, also known as bromhidrosis, is the unpleasant smell that can occur when we sweat.

Body odour, also known as bromhidrosis, is the unpleasant smell that can occur when we sweat. The sweat itself does not smell. The unpleasant odour is due to the bacteria on the skin that break down the sweat into acids. What we eat or drink does have an impact on the body odour. The typical examples of this are alcohol and tobacco. Other food materials that accentuates body odour are spices and vegetables such as garlic and onion.

Here are a few ways to combat body odour:

  • Take bath regularly and wash your hair frequently.
  • Keep your underarms clean and dry. Shaving of the armpits reduces body odour by preventing the moisture from being trapped and thus reducing infection.
  • Increase the intake of water.
  • Regular use of antiperspirants and deodorants which contain aluminium chloride if you sweat heavily. Use roll-on antiperspirants as they tend to be more effective.
  • Eliminate certain food materials from your diet such as onion, garlic and cabbage. Eat healthy food that contains lots of fibre, whole grains, wheat, soy products and vegetables.
  • Use antibacterial soap or herbal soaps while bathing.
