The Drum Roll

In this new column, we explore the top hits and give you our five picks.

Bono, frontman of U2, once said, “Music can change the world because it can change people."

Like every other aspect of this world, 'change' is the only word which can be permanently associated with music.

Among the most notable songs this week is "Wake Me Up" by Avicii. Starting with a fast acoustic guitar rhythm, the song quickly moves on to the world of progressive house. Avicii is known to blend acoustic instruments with electronic progressions and this song is a perfect example of his expertise.

Imagine Dragons have maintained their reputation as the Breakout Band of 2013 with their indie rock sensation, "Demons", featuring at number seven. While its musical progression is nothing new, the powerful lyrics captivates listeners.

Pop punk has created waves in the world of music since the 70's and Paramore might just be its torch-bearer in the 21st century. "Still Into You", their smash hit of 2013, maintains its position at number nine due to its power pop music and Hayley Williams' Hayley Williams' emo-punk style vocals.

Maroon 5's "Love Somebody", featuring at number 32 this week, proves the fact that nothing has changed in 11 years of their alternative music.

"Get Lucky" proved to be one of the most critically and commercially successful songs of Daft Punk in May this year. The song, best described as disco funk, is at number 34 this week.

Now, we wait until next week to find out what 'change' has in store for us.
