Oommen Chandy, Ramesh Chennithala set to leave for Delhi

Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala are expected to leave for New Delhi.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala are expected to leave for New Delhi on Nov 28 to finalise the much delayed KPCC executive committee. Sources reveal that the earlier jumbo list of 390 has been cut down to about 250 now.

“The latest list comes to 97 regular committee members and another 145 special invitees. Due to the imminent Lok Sabha elections, the KPCC leadership had been finding it difficult to ‘axe’ the list”, said a senior ‘I’ group leader.

“According to the Congress tradition, the list gets extended beyond its limit like ‘rubber’. But this time we are hopeful that the list will be announced by the end of this week itself”, said KPCC spokesperson Pandalam Sudhakaran.

Senior Congress leaders like V.M. Sudheeran, A.K. Antony, Mullapally Ramachandran, Vayalar Ravi and P. C. Chacko had called for a ‘viable’ committee.

The Congress leadership had also sought the views of former PCC chiefs C.V. Padmarajan and Thennala Balakrishna Pillai which finally met the desired result.

Earlier, The jumbo list submitted by KPCC general secretaries Thampanoor Ravi and Sooranad Rajasekharan had been turned down by AICC general secretary in charge of the, State Mukul Wasnik.

But on Saturday, Wasnik told reporters here that he couldn’t take a final decision on the list submitted by the KPCC leadership owing to the Chhattisgarh elections.
