As the case began, Nupur Talwar was arrested on April 30, 2012 and the Talwars were charged by Gaziabad court with murder, destruction of evidence and conspiracy.
On December 29, 2010, the CBI filed its report for closing the case, citing circumstantial evidence against the Talwars, but stated they couldn't establish who killed the duo. Special judicial magistrate on Feb 9, 2011 rejected the closure report
Mystery thickened with new twists and turns, even as the Talwars came under the scanner. The probe was then handed over to the CBI in 2008, while Rajesh Talwar was granted bail on July 11, 2008.
