Who killed Aarushi? That was one question that was haunting not just the CBI or police, but the entire nation for the past five and a half years. Now, it seems clear that it was conspired by her own parents-- dentist couple Rajesh Talwar and Nupur- On Oct. 18, 2013, CBI closed arguments saying Talwars had "misled" investigators and the verdict was set for November 25.
- After five months on September 25, Nupur was released on bail on the Supreme Court’s order.
- As the case began, Nupur Talwar was arrested on April 30, 2012 and the Talwars were charged by Gaziabad court with murder, destruction of evidence and conspiracy.
- On December 29, 2010, the CBI filed its report for closing the case, citing circumstantial evidence against the Talwars, but stated they couldn't establish who killed the duo. Special judicial magistrate on Feb 9, 2011 rejected the closure report
- Mystery thickened with new twists and turns, even as the Talwars came under the scanner. The probe was then handed over to the CBI in 2008, while Rajesh Talwar was granted bail on July 11, 2008.
- Two pillows were seized from Hemraj’s room and the other from Krishna’s. But the forensic report said the blood stains on the pillow in Krishna's room matched Hemraj's DNA. but the CBI said it was a typographical error.
- A team of doctors said a khukri, which was seized from Talwar’s assistant Krishna’s house, could have been used to slit throats, but the khukri was never sent for investigation.

- Yet another theory stated that Hemraj was the main target of the killing as he was blackmailing Rajesh, while Aarushi was killed for being a witness. Not just the motive, even the modus operandi has remained an unsolved mystery.
- Rajesh was released on July 11, 2008, but another theory was floated that Dr Rajesh had hit Aarushi fatally after she confronted him about his alleged extra-marital affair, while Hemraj was killed, as he was a witness to Aarushi's death.
- On May 23, 2008, in a dramatic turn of events, the UP police arrested Dr Rajesh, suggesting an “honour killing angle,“ that the slain duo--Aarushi and Hemraj (in pic)-- was eliminated after being caught in a compromising position.
