Scuba diving soon near remote island
Chennai: Narcondam, which is an extremely remote island in the Andaman Sea and home to the endangered endemic species NarcoÂndam hornbill, will soon pulsate with activity as scuba divers are set to explore its resplendent beauty.This remote island in India is also a hotspot for bird-watchers. The waters surrounding Narcondam island are known for diving.
An extinct volcano, Narcondam was put on the diving map by diving pioneer Jacque Cousteau who was the first to dive in these waters and describe it as “a wondrous realm of stunning marine life and coral reefs”.
Diving here will give one a magnificent view of coral formations, spectacular rocky drop-offs and presence of pelagics and majestic creatures such as manta rays; besides gas bubbles rising from fissures on the ocean floor.
Narcondam is uninhabited except for a handful of park rangers and very few people have had the opportunity to visit the island that lacking facilities for accommodation.
Conforming its plans to offer an experiential trip to the Narcondam island on its Infiniti Live-aboard - a luxury yacht, Karina Tourism & Adventures Pvt Ltd said the exclusive trip would offer an exhilarating experience of the underwater world.
The Infiniti live-aboard has facilities for onboard accommodation and it would feature several unique diving attractions including volcanic diving, frontier diving and bioluminescent night diving.
According to Sunil Bakshi, founder of Karina Tourism & Adventures, “There is a lot of interest from divers and explorers in India and also from around the world in this remote island famous for its unique diving. We already have charters for Narcondam, and divers coming from India, Europe, Middle East and America; and are absolutely looking forward to hosting them on the Infiniti.”
