Science fairs by school kids today
Rajahmundry: The department of science and technology, governement of India, has taken special initiative to provide financial assistance to selected schoolchildren in East Godavari to inculcate the habit among them in science projects and to develop them as future scientists.
As part of this programme, a six-day science fair will be organised from Monday at Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Amalapuram and Pithapuram in the district from November 25 to 30.
The selected projects after scrutiny by the committee entrusted with the task, will be sent to the state fair and the best among them to the national level competitions to be conducted at a later stage at New Delhi.
Under the programme, as many as 1,877 school kids were selected from Class VI to X in the screening by the committee from 1,667 schools under all managements in the district after testing their ability to take up project work.
On its part, all those chosen were provided with an amount of Rs 5,000 each directly to prepare the science projects of their liking with able guidance from the subject teacher of the concerned school.
In total, an amount of Rs 37.42 lakh was distributed to the students well in advance to prepare the project work. It is learnt that the department of science and technology initiated these measures by funding for the first time at the initiative taken up by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
East Godavari DEO, K.V. Srinivasulu Reddy on Sunday said after screening the projects the committee was entrusted with the task would select the innovative projects to represent the district at the state level.” We on our part are providing all the amenities at all these four places in the district for the conduct of the fairs to these schoolchildren,” the DEO added.
