Kerala Folklore Academy plans folklore fest in city
Alappuzha: The Kerala Folklore Academy will conduct the first international folklore fest in Kochi in March next year aimed at showcasing the exuberant cheerfulness of various folklore forms across the globe for the people of Kerala.
Talking to DC on the sidelines of 'Neythal', a national seminar on Folklore conducted by the department of Malayalam, St Joseph's college for women, last week here, the academy chairman Muhammad Ahamad said that the festival, would serve as a platform for the interaction of various folk cultures including African and Latin American. In addition to this, the folk arts across the country would be presented as part of the festival.
Adding that it was an attempt to create a better understanding about folklore and its importance among the new generation, he said that the festival would help to export the skills of Kerala folklore artists to other countries. , he said.
Dr C.R. Rajagopal, an expert in folklore, says the advantage of folklore remains untapped. "These extinct art forms can be adapted by fashion technology students. If serious research takes place in the state, we can produce innovative products", he says.
