'Sholay 3D' was a tough challenge: Ketan Mehta

Ketan Mehta says he had two major reasons for taking up the project.

Filmmaker Ketan Mehta, who has converted the iconic film 'Sholay into a 3D' version, says he had two major reasons for taking up the project. He says, “When I thought about which Hindi film would suit a 3D format, 'Sholay' instantly came to my mind. Secondly, the 3D form is the future of entertainment.

The producers wanted to present the cult to the younger audience and I thought it’s a wonderful idea.”

Speaking about the challenges that he had to face while making the 3D version, he says, “There were many challenges. We had to digitise the negatives, colour correct each second which is 24 frames. So there were around 8 lakh frames and for each element mapping had to be done.”

While the director of Sholay, Ramesh Sippy, hasn’t been supportive of Sholay 3D, Ketan is happy that writers Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar are promoting the film. He says, “Salim-Javed attended the launch of our film and they believe the 3D version will be a great experience for fans of the original.”
