Police raid arrested TMC MP Kunal's home, seize hard disk

Police had on Saturday arrested him in connection with the Saradha Group ponzi scam.

Kolkata: Police today carried out a raid at the house of suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh in north Kolkata, a day after he was arrested in connection with the Saradha Group ponzi scam. Ghosh was also brought along with the raiding team. Sources said the police seized a hard disk of a computer from Ghosh's home where the raid began early in the morning and continued for over an hour.

Ghosh, the CEO of Saradha Group's media arm, was charged under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 120B (conspiracy) of the IPC. The Rajya Sabha MP would be produced before a court in Bidhannagar today.

Meanwhile, police were inquiring how Ghosh had made a Facebook post last evening when he was already arrested, the sources said. They found that one of his friends and the input editor of his new channel were involved in putting the post on the social networking site. The two were being interrogated by the police, the sources said.

In that post, Ghosh termed his arrest as a "conspiracy" and said the police should take the help of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and two other Trinamool Congress leaders to find the truth behind the case. He also demanded that the chitfund scam probe should be handed over to the CBI immediately.

Ghosh, who was once known to have a close rapport with party supremo Mamata Banerjee, was leading a tirade against the party after his name cropped up in the case. TMC suspended him for anti-party activities in September after he made unsavoury remarks against it.

Kunal's bail plea rejected, remanded in 5 days police custody

Kolkata: Court on sunday rejected the bail plea of suspended Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh, arrested in connection with the Saradha ponzi scam, and sent him to five days police custody.

Additional chief judicial magistrate, Bidhannagar, Apurba Kumar Ghosh, passed the order after Ghosh was produced before him amid tight security. While Ghosh's counsel sought his bail, the police sought his custody for seven days for further investigation.

The Rajya Sabha member was arrested last night in connection with the Saradha ponzi scam. Ghosh, who was suspended from Trinamool Congress for anti-party activities in September, tried to say something to the judge but he was not allowed.

His arrest was made in connection with a complaint filed by the general manager of a company Broadcast Worldwide. Ghosh, the CEO of Saradha Group's media arm, was charged under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 120B (conspiracy) of the IPC.

Ghosh told reporters outside the court that he was on a fast since last night to protest the alleged cruel behaviour of the police towards him.

Before his arrest last night, the MP had filed an FIR against deputy commissioner of detective department (DCDD) of Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, Arnab Ghosh, alleging 'criminal blackmailing' by him. He had alleged that the police officer had asked him to reply to questions which were beyond his comprehension or face arrest.
