Patna blasts: Shrink drafts Simi cadre
Raipur: The suspected Students’ Islamic Movement of India (Simi) militant Abdullah, alias Hyder Ali, believed to the mastermind of the Patna blasts, was a professional psychologist who used to draft educated Muslim youths into the banned outfit by brainwashing them, police sources said here Saturday.
Sources said this information was obtained during the interrogation of 11 suspected Simi activists, arrested from different places.
Police sources said Ranchi-based Hyder has a master’s degree in psychology and also a Ph.D. “Hyder is very sharp. He used to indoctrinate educated Muslim youth by brainwashing them,” police sources said, quoting versions of some senior Simi leaders, including Chhattisgarh Simi chief Umer Siddiqui.
Hyder and three accomplices managed to evade the police just before the crackdown on Simi began.
The police said another suspected militant, Mujib Khan, had allegedly played a key role in the blasts. Mujib was preparing for the civil services examination by enlisting in a coaching class in his locality.
He aspired to be an IPS officer.
Meanwhile, the police on Saturday arrested two more Simi activists, at Raipur and Raigarh, taking the number of suspected Simi militants arrested in the state to 13.
“The two Simi activists arrested on Saturday have been identified as Azhar and Shaheed,” Raipur IGP G.P. Singh told reporters.
