3 killed in bike mishap in Hyderabad

Three youth killed in road accident as their bike hit a road divider.
Hyderabad: Three friends were killed when their bike hit a road divider at Jeedimetla early on Saturday morning.
The accident took place a few meters from the Jeedimetla police station at Shapur at around 3 am. The victims, two B.Tech final year students and their friend, were returning from a pub in Somajiguda.
The three died on the spot before they could be given medical help. The police suspects the bike driver was drunk. Triple riding also contributed to the accident.
The victims are K. Vinay Kumar, 23, who finished his graduation last year, M. Surender, 21, and Vinod Raju, both B.Tech students at the MLR Institute of Technology, Dundigal. They were residents of Suraram Colony. The Karizma bike belonged to Vinay Kumar.
Vinay Kumar’s father K. Das said his son had left saying that he was going to meet some friends. “When we called him, he said he would be late. But early in the morning, we heard the tragic news,” he said.
The trio, who lived in the same building at Suraram Colony, had planned a weekend party and had left on a bike. “Over speeding and negligence caused the accident. Due to the force of the impact, the three were thrown on the road, sustaining serious head injuries. The road is straight and there are no bumpy areas for the rider to lose balance. We suspect the rider must have been drunk,” said Jeedimetla inspector M. Sudarshan.
Vinay’s former collegemate N. Mahesh, said that he was a careful driver. “He had been driving the bike since February 2009 and was careful. Perhaps, someone else was driving the bike,” he said. The police is yet to confirm who was driving at the time of the mishap.
Vinod Raju had come to the city from Khammam to pursue his education. Surender is a native of Nellore. Both stayed in a rented flat at Suraram Colony.
Meanwhile, gloom descended on MLR Institute of Technology as the death of the two students came as a shock to their friends. Teachers said that the two were about to finish their course.
The bodies were sent for post mortem, after which they will be handed over to the families. The police has booked a case as per a complaint filed by Das.
